WHY ORGANIC COTTON?

Organic cotton is grown without any pesticides and insecticides, many of which are cancer-causing. Additionally, organic cotton farming uses 91% less water than conventional cotton farming. Certified organic cotton goes a step further by requiring a third party to keep farmers and manufacturers accountable for their claims of being organic. GOTS-certified organic cotton is the highest level of textile certification and is globally recognized for auditing sustainability at every step of production, from farm to mill to finished garment, and even to packaging. That is why all of our clothing is made of GOTS-certified organic cotton, dyes, and trims.


We
don't use bamboo rayon/viscose
"Bamboo is a plant that grows quickly with little or no pesticides, is known for its strength, and is sometimes used in eco-friendly products. But when it’s processed into fabric that's advertised as 'soft,' 'silky,' or 'cool to the touch,' it has likely been turned into rayon or viscose using toxic chemicals. This process is far from eco-friendly, and the fabric that it creates may not be better for the environment than other types of fabric.

False Claims About Bamboo Fabric

When bamboo has been chemically processed into rayon and similar fabrics, there's no trace of the original plant left.

Bamboo that has been processed to make soft fabric no longer has the same qualities as bamboo. For example, although a bamboo plant can resist the growth of bacteria, there's no evidence that rayon fabric made from processed bamboo is 'naturally' antibacterial. Real bamboo fabric that may be antibacterial is often rough or scratchy, and is rarely used in fabric you touch, like clothing or bedding."

or any other semi-synthetic fabrics because the process is as important to us as the finished product (and bamboo is only "sustainable, eco-friendly and antimicrobial" in its plant form). Even OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 only certifies the final product is not harmful, but does not take into account the
sodium hydroxide

"Sodium hydroxide is caustic and is one of several alkaline compounds referred to as 'lye.' Sodium hydroxide is strongly irritating and corrosive. It can cause severe burns and permanent damage to any tissue that it comes in contact with. Sodium hydroxide can cause hydrolysis of proteins, and hence can cause burns in the eyes which may lead to permanent eye damage."

used in bamboo processing, both of which are are highly toxic and a risk to human health.

How ORGANIC are we?

Under GOTS:

  • Our garments don't contain any toxic heavy metals, formaldehyde, aromatic solvents, functional nanoparticles, or genetically modified organisms (GMO)
  • We don't use Azo dyes that release carcinogenic amine compounds
  • Our trims and snaps conform to strict standards (e.g. no PVC, nickel, or chrome permitted)
  • Even the packaging of our garments does not include PVC plastics or other harmful material

In the factories that manufacture our goods:

  • Employment is freely chosen
  • There is freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining
  • Working conditions are safe and hygienic
  • Child labor is prohibited
  • Living wages are paid
  • Working hours are not excessive
  • Discrimination is prohibited
  • Harsh or inhumane treatment is prohibited
